Who are we?

Z Farms, located in Grand Junction, Tennessee, is a specialized Equine-Assisted Therapy center committed to improving the lives of individuals aged 8-23 with mental or physical disabilities. Our participants engage in adaptive horseback riding sessions led by our highly trained and PATH-certified instructor. During these sessions, participants are guided by a skilled team as they navigate the arena. Each member will also participate in ground activities, doing various fun activities including grooming, feeding, and leading the horse.

Equine therapy offers a highly individualized experience for each participant. Z Farms customizes activities and approaches to align with each individual’s unique needs and goals. Trained professionals, such as equine therapists, riding instructors, and mental health professionals, oversee the therapy, ensuring the safety and therapeutic benefit of the activities for all involved.

Why is Equine-Assisted Therapy Important at Z Farms?

Equine-assisted therapy, also known as equine therapy or horse therapy, is a form of therapy that involves interactions between individuals and horses. Participants typically complete it individually with a trainer, or they can opt for a group setting. It is a valuable therapeutic approach for various psychological, emotional, and physical issues. There are several reasons why equine-assisted therapy is important, and Z Farms aims to fulfill these goals for our customers:

  1. Personal Growth: Equine therapy can promote personal growth and self-awareness, helping individuals overcome challenges and develop valuable life skills.
  2. Engaging and Motivating: Many people find equine therapy engaging and motivating because it involves interaction with animals, outdoor activities, and a break from traditional talk therapy methods.
  3. Emotional and Psychological Benefits: a. Stress Reduction: Interacting with horses and being in a natural, outdoor setting can reduce stress and promote relaxation. b. Emotional Regulation: Horses can help individuals regulate their emotions and improve their mood. c. Self-esteem and Confidence: Accomplishing tasks with horses can boost self-esteem and confidence. d.Anxiety and Depression: Equine therapy not only instills a profound sense of purpose but also uplifts one’s mood, offering substantial relief to individuals grappling with anxiety and depression. e. Empathy and Communication: Collaborating with horses fosters empathy and elevates communication skills, offering invaluable support to those with conditions like autism or social disorders.

What do we aim to do?

  1. Self-Esteem and Confidence Building: Accomplishing tasks with horses, even simple ones like grooming or leading, can boost self-esteem and confidence.
  2. Therapeutic Riding: Therapeutic Riding provides structured horseback riding instruction designed to help individuals with disabilities. Trained instructors use riding as a means to achieve therapeutic goals, such as improving posture, muscle tone, and motor skills.
  3. Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP): In EAP, individuals engage in various ground-based activities and interactions with horses while working with a licensed therapist. Therapists use horses as metaphors to delve into emotional and psychological issues, with discussions being a vital component of the process.
  4. Social Skill Building: Equine therapy can be used to improve social skills and interactions. Group activities involving horses can promote teamwork, cooperation, and communication among participants.
  5. Emotional Regulation: Horses are sensitive to human emotions, and individuals may learn to manage their emotions effectively by working with horses. Activities may include calming exercises and mindful interactions.
